AB - © 2014 IEEE. Dealing with 1D form of 2D systems is an alternative strategy to reduce the intrinsic complexity of 2D systems and their applications. To obtain the 1D form of 2D systems, a row (column) process is used in this paper. The controllability analysis of the obtained 1D form and its relation to the local controllability of the local states in the original 2D system is the subject of this paper. Moreover, in this paper, a new notion of controllability named directional controllability is defined and studied for the underlying 2D systems.
