In order to maintain their competitiveness, companies with customer-specific productions require a high degree of flexibility in dealing with value-adding and non-value-adding variability. This article defines 14 variability criteria, including mathematical descriptions of these, which in the following represent the input of a variability-considering machine allocation planning approach adapted to the needs of customer order-specific production.
