We undertake a review of Chinese-owned Australian patent rights over the last decade. In summary, the overall learnings from this study are: • There is a subset of high-quality Chinese patents that are identifiable by the following characteristics; standard patents, granted, renewed, and members of Triadic patent families • There is also a subset of lower quality patents that are identifiable by the following characteristics; innovation patents, not certified • In this data set, up until the date the data was collected, Huawei has by far the most Australian patents of all Chinese entities • There is an unexpected concentration of patent agent services provided by IPH, resulting from the merger of a number of independent patent attorney firms • There has been no patent enforcement by Chinese owners of Australian patents
