dc.description.abstract	Flawed Skin: A documentary film that takes a look at the recent reconstruction of the facades of the former East German Government's 'Splendour Street' the Karl-Marx-Allee in Berlin. The film seeks to chart what kind of relationships these Stalinist inspired apartment building's mix of ideology and architecture are now imbued through the eyes of some of its oldest and newest residents. Flawed FaÃ§ade is a documentary style film concerned with the present aesthetic, political and cultural debates on the re-presentation of architectural history over present urban condition of Berlin's Schlossplatz. The film charts through a series of interviews the arguments from those for and against the status of remembering the architectural spaces of the GDR as opposed to reconstructing vanished historical architectural spaces. Berlin's Schlossplatz site collectively symbolizes the status of unity operating between former east and west Germany through the sanctioned demolition of former East Germany's most representative building, the Palast der Republik to make way for the total reconstruction of an outmoded symbol of a cultural artifact the monarchial of architecture Berlin's Royal Castle - the Schloss Berlin.	en_US
