Arrangements for leadership at the local level continue to be an enduring focus for both scholarly attention and reform processes across the globe. This edited book provides a refreshingly eclectic – if somewhat randomly selected – range of studies of ‘boss mayors’ (my phrase), from both the Anglosphere (Australia, Britain, New Zealand and the United States) and continental Europe (Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic) alongside some comparative and theoretical work.
