Background The book was published as the first major selection of my creative work to appear so far. It also represents new work. It is the foundation volume for future selections and also for future translations. Contribution The book makes a major contribution to my creative research profile. It offers a significant contribution to the practice of Australian creative writing. It makes a contribution across the fields of writing and poetics as well as contributing to the fields of eco-criticism, contemporary literary aesthetics and the aesthetics of land and landscape studies. It was the foundation poetry publication for the University of Western Australia's New Writing series. Significance The book represents a large and coherent body of work in poetry, providing readers with a chance to overview past and contemporary directions in my creative work. It has been widely reviewed in both national media and in journals in Australia and the UK. It has been shortlisted for two major awards (ACT Poetry Prize and the SA Premiers Awards) and won the APA Book Design Awards 2008 for its cover design. A follow on edition was issued in the UK in late 2008. The book was praised in UK Poetry Review as "some of the most brilliant metaphysical nature poems of our time".
