Background This is a solo flute work of approximately 5 minute's duration. It was composed for a senior high school student completing the performance part of the HSC curriculum. Contribution This work contributes to the body of contemporary repertoire for solo flute that is intended to be played by the professional or advanced student. It can be managed by a player of 7th grade standard or above and thereby contributes to repertoire suitable for Australian contemporary repertoire representation in the HSC curriculum and helps the performer learn extended and new contemporary playing techniques that "extend" beyond conventional methods of playing. Significance Students preparing for HSC and related performance needs appropriate pedagogical repertoire that introduces new techniques and enables interpretation of contemporary music. Australian content is an HSC requirement. Many pieces composed solely for professional performance are too difficult to satisfy this requirement. There is a dearth of Australian repertoire.
