Background - This is a work for solo piano of approximately 11 minutes duration for professional standard performers. It is an original composition score commercially available through the Australian Music Centre, the National representative body for Australian contemporary music. Contribution - The cultural contribution of this work lies in its development of new contemporary literature for piano at a professional standard, most particularly to solo repertoire. The work employs idiomatic pianistic techniques and contemporary "extended' techniques for the instrument, based on a thorough background and knowledge of piano performance. Comparative musical literature and techniques were researched in the creation of this piece. Significance - This is an original creative work utilising contemporary style of substantive duration and difficulty aimed at the professional repertoire for the instruments. It is a creative application of researched contemporary and idiomatic piano performance techniques, drawing on criticality and analysis of other contemporary repertoire for the instrument in defining its own original musical language. Some algorithmic and stochastic techniques (derived from contemporary computational methodology and A.I.) were applied in the development of the material in this creative work, building on a professional (sabbatical) residency at IRCAM (Institute for Acoustic and Computer Music Research) Paris.
