Four British Army dispatches, all focusing on Indian troops and reporting from Pegu in Burma, 11 May and 21 and 22 May 1945. Dispatches typed by P.R.S. Mani, captain in the British Army. Documents then annotated by Mani in final draft before dispatch.
May 11 reports Indian troops having captured Pegu.
May 21 reports on individual Indian barber ‘only a civilian’ but crucial to the troops’ comfort.
One May 22 dispatch describe pursuit by Indian troops in 6th Indian Division, British Army, pursuing retreating Japanese, prior to Japanese surrender. The other May 22 despatch gives a full account of 1st Punjabi Regiment’s history during whole Burma Campaign as background to their heroism in the current battles round Pegu.
