pubs.rights-statement	Research background: This research is in the field of Communication and Media Studies, 2001. Hallgrimsdottir et al (2006) demonstrate that the focus on the “sex” rather then the “work” in media reporting on sex work contributes to the social stigma experienced by sex workers. Mgbako (2016) argues that in order to battle this stigma and discrimination journalists must engage the voices of sex workers themselves. Gira Grant (2014) notes that sex workers who produce media are accused of being non-representative or working on behalf of exploiters. The research question of this project is: How do representations of sex work change when sex workers tell their own stories? Research contribution: Social media allowed access to sex worker groups and the building of peer researcher relationships which allow sex worker voices to speak in this documentary. Previous scholarly accounts judged the 1975 French sex worker strike movement as a failure. This documentary reveals that when sex workers tell their own stories the strike is seen as a success because it provided the spark that ignited the contemporary sex worker rights movement in Europe. Research significance: The work was co -commissioned by two European public broadcasters (Radio France and Radio Belgium) and the ABC. It “screened” at Sheffield documentary festival – the largest documentary festival in the world as a finalist for an international radio documentary award In The Dark (2015).	en_US
