Experiments were carried out using crossflow microfiltration (CFMF) for treating filter backwash water from a water treatment plant. It was found that CFMF with backflush is technically feasible and highly efficient. The condition of the backflush frequency (Tf) of 1 min and backflush duration (Tb) of 1 s was found to be optimum. Long-term experiments showed that partially clogged membranes can also yield significant productivity and that the process is insensitive to varying influent concentration. © 1996, All rights reserved.
