There is now a proliferation of different wave energy devices that are under investigation, e.g., oscillating water columns (OWC), overtopping devices, point absorbers, surging devices, and mechanical extraction. A discussion on the viability of small Wells turbines for OWC covers computational fluid dynamic analysis of the Wells turbine; constant flow results; oscillating airflow operation; swiveling blade oscillation; enlarged machine simulation; application of OWC in a wave tank; characterization of Wells turbine and generator; and OWC performance with waves. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the Eighteenth International Offshore and Polar Engineering Conference (Vancouver, Canada 7/6-11/2008).
