pubs.rights-statement	Research background: in this portfolio Jon Drummond investigates the relationships between the electronic and the acoustic. Electroflorescence is a live performance work for Hurdy Gurdy and live electroacoustics. Light Traces is a live performance work for analogue music and video synthesisers. Heavy Metal developed original sonification and visualisation techniques to interact with Arthur Boyd’s paintings in his studio. Twittering Machine is an installation work for interactive physical computing exploring the realatime sonification of social media via twitter feeds. Research contribution: these works identified new ways to employ electronic assemblages in relation to the acoustic world. Granular synthesis software interfaces and real time software-based musical computation prove effective when combined with analogue Medieval music technology. Light Dependent Resistors (LDR) can be used as control interfaces for synthesisers, with pulses of light creating rhythmic patterns and light intensity controlling timbre. Autonomous micro-computers can create sonification and visualisation of social media via twitter feeds. Research significance: these works were funded by the Australia Council and the Australian Research Council, broadcast on ABC Classic FM, selected via peer review for the New Interfaces for Musical Expression conference performance series and International Symposium on Electronic Art.	en_US
