© 2017 IEEE. This paper presents an analysis of the direct- and quadrature-axis inductances for linear tubular actuators with permanent magnet arrays, highlighting and featuring how they are affected by the end effects. A semi-analytical and an experimental analysis are performed to prove the influence of end effects on self- and mutual inductances. The synchronous parameters, i.e., d - and q -axis inductances of the actuator, are determined using a semi-analytical method and an experimental method. Once the synchronous parameters are all identified, high performance control methods (such as direct force control and vector control) may be implemented.
