© 2018 IEEE. This paper proposes a novel double stator series permanent magnet axial field flux switching memory (SPMAFFSM) machine with DC field winding. In particular, the DC field winding can be used for both magnetization state manipulation of low coercive force (LCF) PM and hybrid excitation. Thus, the proposed machine is capable of operating in dual-mode. Namely, by regulating the magnetization state of the LCF PMs, the machine can operate as a memory machine. Beyond the regulating range of memory machine, the DC field winding is used for further flux-weakening or flux-enhancing. As a result, the main benefits that the proposed machine has gained from the dual-mode operation have been, improved flux regulation performance as well as the high efficiency over the whole operating range. Three-dimensional finite-element analysis (3D FEA) has been used to predict the machine performance, while a prototype machine has been built and tested to validate the predicted results.
