Almost three decades after the world's first web browser was launched in the public domain for a more connected world, we see internet users divided more than ever before. Little did regulators and policymakers know at the time that this new technology that would fundamentally change the world would also pose significant challenges for stakeholders around the world. Standing at the same intersection is Terry Flew's very timely and exciting new book Regulating Platforms, in which he raises practical questions about the power of these social media platforms to shape online interactions, the growing and emerging issues that governments, policymakers, and CEOs of these digital platforms are dealing with, and what nations across the world are doing to regulate these platforms. However, more importantly, Flew brings the readers' attention to the growing interest of governments and policymakers in internet governance and regulation over the last decade, and asks why now?
