Water management in urban developments is crucial to revive natural hydrological systems, improve water quality in receiving waters by reducing pollutants, allowing better groundwater infiltration, and saving water as a resource. Large-scale master-planned residential developments and eco-neighborhoods are already incorporating useful water management practices such as Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and permaculture in retrofitting the existing, and new developments at the design stages in brownfield, greenfield, and infill developments. However, the water management practices and approaches applied in these two development types could be similar and different to a certain extent. This chapter analyzed and compared how these practices have been incorporated in selected master-planned and eco-neighborhood residential case studies. Integration of WSUD and permaculture techniques for water management can provide multiple benefits of sustainability, and water resource conservation, and create healthy liveable environments for residents in cities and towns.
