This chapter is a textual analysis of songs that specifically explore parenting and childhood in their lyrics. Here, music is demonstrated to be a medium in a different way from Chapter 2, this time as a method of expression of often very personal experiences. Again, what is shown is the way relationships are central to popular music and parenting. In some examples, relationships were formed, whereas, in other examples, relationships were lost or those that were never allowed to form in the first place. The sheer volume of possible examples of parent/child songs here (and the many more that could have been included) demonstrates that this conversation needs to continue.
