Leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) have received increasing attentions in the recent decades. Generally, LWAs exhibit frequency dispersion, which would lead to narrow bandwidth for wireless communications. To mitigate this effect, this paper provides an innovative method of creating a non-positive slope in the dispersion diagram. It is attained by introducing square bracket-shaped metal pieces above a transverse-slot LWA. The finalized antenna achieves wideband fixed beams at θ=37°± 2° in the band from 9.5 to 12.2 GHz. A low-cost additive manufacturing technology is used for antenna fabrication. The measured performance of the fabricated prototype agrees with the simulated one.
