The design of two doubly salient DS machines with permanent magnet PM material placed in the stator yoke is calculated by generic algorithm from the perspective of pole slot combination flux concentrated effect and flux barrier effect which can consider the local magnetic saturation The electromagnetic characteristics of DSPM are analyzed by finite element method When the topologies I and II have different motor volumes the same winding numbers and PM material quantities the maximum value of back electromotive force EMF and torque of topology II are larger by 22 27 and 12 02 than those of topology I respectively The torque ripple of topology II is lower by 41 than that of topology I When the topologies I and II have the same motor volumes winding numbers and PM material quantities the maximum value of back EMF and torque of topology I are larger by 22 73 and 29 18 than those of topology II respectively The torque ripple of topology II is lower by 50 than that of topology I
