Interest in hydrogen as an energy carrier has been rapidly increasing in response to the concerns over environmental impacts globally Hydrogen based Fuel cells FCs are widely utilized for converting chemical energy into electrical energy using different types of technologies such as Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell PEMFC Solid Oxide Fuel Cell SOFC Alkaline Fuel Cell AFC Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell PAFC Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell MCFC Direct Methanol Fuel Cell DMFC Currently PEMFC technology has the highest commercial interest as a battery replacement due to long lifetime and high durability It is important to estimate the equivalent circuit parameters of PEMFC to be used in numerous new applications This paper focuses on evaluating the feasibility of employing two current switching based techniques current loading and current interruption in estimating the parameters of the equivalent circuit of a commercial PEMFC A single test rig is developed to conduct the equivalent circuit estimation using both aforementioned techniques Experimental data together with simulations are used to verify the performance of the PEMFC equivalent circuit
