Requirements management is playing an increasing role in the way major infrastructure projects in Australia are delivered Since the introduction of Systems Engineering standards in government procurement frameworks a multitude of system and technical requirements are captured developed and managed throughout the planning and acquisition phases New digital engineering standards are also being utilized in transport infrastructure projects adding new information requirements This paper investigates requirements management practices in major infrastructure projects via an online survey of systems engineering and digital engineering experts Three aspects of requirements management practices are investigated including process technology and people culture Findings show differences in technical system requirements and information requirements capabilities An analysis that accounts for the discipline specific perspectives of systems engineering and digital engineering roles was undertaken identifying the impacts of task dependencies and a lack of cross disciplinary expertise and collaboration in managing requirements
