A reconfigurable dual polarized antenna array system featuring wide range continuous beamwidth control WCBC is developed based on polarization mixing method By combining two linear polarized radiations and adjusting the phase shift between the two sub arrays the total radiation pattern can have its beamwidth continuously varying from 21 to 100 Moreover the system retains its beam scanning capabilities when the two polarizations are used separately The system is characterized by its simple configuration and modulation Whether works in beam scanning or beamwidth control mode the system can be easily controlled by a phase shift chip Notably no additional amplifiers or attenuators are required and all elements are fully excited ensuring the high overall efficiency of the system The WCBC array system is designed fabricated and experimentally validated
