We present a routing model called adapted diffusion for ad hoc wireless sensor networks that is more energy efficient than directed diffusion. Adapted diffusion is modeled using NetLogo with agent-based modeling. In this agent-based NetLogo model, we set the distance from a random source and the distance from the sink to optimize the routing protocols. By using this routing technique significant energy savings were achieved. We consider a three-dimensional communication network that can be used in a building or a stack of shipping containers. Our model can be extended to a 3D model.
