This paper presents a study of mutual coupling between circularly polarised electromagnetically coupled patch (CP-EMCP) antennas. Two types of antennas having different high dielectric constants driven layer have been addressed. In addition to comparison of mutual coupling between CP-EMCP antennas, comparisons have been made to three references, one of which is the recently reported mutual coupling between reduced surface-wave (RSW) antennas. Our calculated results are superior to others in general, and have exhibited 6 to 11 dB weaker than RSW antennas at a centre-spacing of 0.7λ0, in the E-plane, and much lower levels within 2.4λ0, centre-spacing in the H-plane. These weak mutual coupling results makes a CP-EMCP array design very promising. © 2003 IEEE.
