Contemporary software development organizations have a need for flexible processes and methodologies. They eschew formal, heavyweight methods for the use of more agile methodologies. Creating such an agile methodology is shown to be facilitated by using the theory of situational method engineering. This is then exemplified in a case study in a well-established, multinational legal publishing company in Australia. © 2004 IEEE.
