The increasing globalization of software industry demands
an investigation of Requirements Engineering (RE) in multisite
software development organizations. This paper advocates
that the study of requirements engineering in geographically
distributed software development is not only important but
challenging at the same time.
A research agenda to develop a model of impact of distance
on requirements engineering collaborative activities is
proposed. A field investigation of RE in a multi-site
development organization is described to illustrate th.e effects
of stakeholders' geographical distribution on requirements
collaborative activities as well as specific challenges that
distance placed in conducting this research itself.
