Mani on assignment as foreign correspondent for Free Press Journal. Accompanied Nehru on his trip to visit Indian workers (mostly on plantations) in Malaya. Despite continued British rule, Nehru delivered nationalist message. His audiences, Mani noted, included BOTH Indians wearing the uniform of the British Army AND Indians wearing the uniform of the Indian National Army. NB: No journalist’s by-lines were used in this newspaper in that period but these items were collected and saved BY PRS Mani, which strongly indicates they were authored by him.
