Handwritten diary entries, which provide background information for P.R.S. Mani’s 1946 Free Press Journal articles. “Mae West” used as an alias identity for [?]. Notes written by P.R.S. Mani.

These are an important comparison with his published articles – indicate background for the stories as well as tensions around reporting. Diary entries record Mani’s decision to seek rice aid for India from Indonesian nationalists; records his frequent meetings with Indian ‘deserters’ now supporting Indonesians; expresses frustration at Indian army officers supporting Dutch; describes British attempted censorship and bargaining over future of ‘deserters’.
