The substrate tolerance effects of the high-permittivity materials on the circularly polarized (CP) stacked patch antennas were investigated. The effects in four extreme cases on the gain and impedance matching (VSWR) of both the C- and Ku-band designs were observed to be insignificant. These same effects were found to be significant on the axial ratio and axial-ratio bandwidth in both designs. It was found that the tolerance in thickness of high permittivity materials causes a deterioration in the boresight axial ratio of singly-fed stacked patch antennas.
