This paper presents techniques to improve the gain and bandwidths of a singly-fed cross-aperture coupled patch antenna at 2.4 GHz for circular polarisation. The experimental and simulated results on the antenna are presented. The antenna has a gain bandwidth of 15.5% with a mean gain of 9.32 dBic. The impedance bandwidth (VSWR≤2) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth are obtained as 14.4% and 2.7%, respectively. The measured cross-polarisation, front-to-back ratio and half-power beamwidths are also examined.
