pubs.rights-statement	This research is a portfolio of journalism about gendered language and the response to the former Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s misogyny speech. Research background This research sits in the field of studies of gendered language. Acker and Crawford argue all organisations are gendered organisations. Men are constructed as the norm and any discussion of women in politics is highlighted by difference and limit ways in which female politicians are discussed within the media, argues Muir. Johnson identifies that male politicians are constructed as the norm and identifies Abbott as an example of protective masculinity. Aggressive styles of parliamentary behaviour associated with traditional modes of masculinity are afforded greater legitimacy than more consultative and united interactive approaches traditionally seen as feminine (Sawer) but women who adhere to these modes of behaviour are seen as lacking femininity and lose their ‘real woman’ status (Crawford and Pini). The research question is: What forms of mainstream journalism are best suited to representing gendered language bias? Research contribution These journalistic pieces demonstrate the understanding of the effect of gendered language is widely undervalued and commonly identified with progressive female politicians rather than conservative female politicians. Research significance This portfolio of journalism was published in smh.com.au, theage.com.au, canberratimes.com.au. I was invited to write for theconversation.edu.au. I have also been invited to speak on both ABC radio and commercial radio on this issue, as well as interviewed as a commentator . In The Conversation, I am ranked number eight from 253 contributors at UTS.	en_US
