pubs.rights-statement	Krautrock is a 54 minute radio documentary collage about Krautrock and its complex cultural and historical background in post-war Germany. 1. Research Background This research is in the field of Radio Studies. Godfrey (2002) shows that, in the past, historians have tended to regard the radio archive as “a suspect historical source”. By contrast , Street (2014) stresses the growing role of media archives as repositories of historical and societal memory. Tony Barrell (2000, 2011) has demonstrated that radio documentaries that employ collage can make historical material drawn from the radio archive meaningful in new ways. The research question this project addressed is: what potential forms of cultural history can be released by applying the techniques of radio collage? 2. Research Contribution This project demonstrates that creating a documentary collage which re-contextualizes elements from the radio archive allows for an innovative form of cultural history, employing popular music to explore and illuminate post-war German history. 3. Research Significance The documentary was broadcast on The Night Air on ABC Radio National on 16 September 2012.
