pubs.rights-statement	Traditional approaches to landscape and urbanism have disregarded descampado—a Spanish term often translated as Terrain Vague—landscapes as arrangements of peripheral urban fragments—mainly empty—that differ in function and size, yet have a common denominator: low intensity of informal use in transition between the city and an agricultural landscape. Roundabout Prophylactics explores the preservation of this landscape and informal leisure associated with it, forming a connection between this area and the surrounding city. The project highlights the potential of this untapped landscape, preserving its fragmented nature as wild reservoirs for public use. The landscape is left untouched by locating all new buildings on the roofs of existing warehouses, mixing industrial and domestic uses and building a housing ring along the site’s perimeter that blocks the urban sprawl. Its value has been attested by the following indicators: Second prize in the international competition Europan 11 Alcorcon; its inclusion on the European and Spanish catalogues of the competition; and its publication in the magazines AV Proyectos and Pasajes de Arquitectura y Critica.	en_US
