pubs.rights-statement	This work is located in the field of Visual Communication design, specifically book design. Many contemporary readers buy books online, never seeing a physical object before purchasing. This is a design problem: how could we design book packages that appeal to bookshop and online consumers? One emerging solution is creating ‘book trailers’, or short videos that engage readers’ online. This is a new phenomenon, particularly in Australia. To understand what’s involved in producing a book trailer, I commissioned a motion-graphics designer to work with my artwork for a forthcoming book Moving Among Strangers. I worked closely with the author Gabrielle Carey on developing a script, and she convinced Australian composer Iain Grandame and literary critic Geordie Williamson to contribute music and audio. The project is a practice-based exploration of my ongoing research into the translation of print media into the digital realm; creating an original motion-graphic piece on screen, from a printed book jacket, in order to motivate consumers to purchase a printed book. The relationship between the different media is rich and complex. This project resulted in Professor John Dale approaching me to produce book trailers for a range of books (fiction and non-fiction) written by staff in UTS:FASS, and for commercial publishers Bloomsbury and Allen&Unwin to approach me about produce more innovative trailers for their titles.	en_US
