pubs.rights-statement	The collection of garments titled ‘Second Glance’ was developed in collaboration with Calcoup Knitwear Company Pty Ltd, and created for Sensorial Loop, 1st Tamworth Textile Triennial (1 October to 26 November 2011). I was selected as one of 22 exhibitors from a national selection process chaired by the RMIT academic and curator Patrick Snelling to create work that responded to the theme, ‘Sensorial Loop’ which in part focussed on the increasing use of technology in creative practice. The collection was based on a study of trompe l’oeil, a technique that was first applied to knitted fabrics in the 1930s by Elsa Schiaparelli. Knitwear was one of the most important sites of innovation in female ready-to-wear clothing from the 1890s to the 1930s. With recent advances in technology it again is a site of aesthetic and technical experimentation. Investigating a digital approach to knitting, the work explored how the texture of three-dimensional knitted patterns could be represented two-dimensionally. The process involved digitally manipulating photographic files that were then converted into a fabric form using a Jacquard knitting process. The ‘knits’ were then developed into garments that highlighted this innovative application of pattern. The exhibition travelled to regional galleries in Australia from 2012 to 2013, including RMIT Gallery, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, Manly Art Gallery and Museum and Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery. Each show received significant local press coverage, along with articles appearing in national and international press.	en_US
