In this essay, I outlay main developments within the administration of German Qingdao (1897-1914) and the resulting consequences for the Germans and Chinese living in this colony. Against this background, I examine how German colonial actors were able to identify Qingdao as a "second" Heimat. In particular, I investigate the possibility of a link between the early colonial policies introduced by the German administration and the construction of Heimat by German colonizers within everyday life.	en_US
