© 2020 Electricity prices in Australia have increased at an annual growth rate of 8% over the past decade, nearly four times higher than inflation (2.3 %). Low-income households spend a greater proportion of weekly income on energy costs. This article explores the nature of a ‘just transition’ toward lower emissions within electricity markets, with a particular focus on end user pricing outcomes and significantly impacted communities (e.g., coal mining regions, etc).
