The objective of this research is to propose one or more methods for measuring overall waste prevention outcomes across the national economy, including the public, private and third sectors. The project is part of a larger project on Measuring Waste Prevention which is a collaboration between BehaviourWorks Australia (Monash University) and the University of Technology Sydney, funded by the Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. This report is the second of three underlying pieces of research that support the development of feasible methods to measure waste prevention at national, state/territory and more local scales. The aim for these methods is to feed into Australia’s national waste reporting, and in particular, support tracking of progress against Target 2 of the National Waste Policy & Action Plan: Reduce total waste generated in Australia by 10% per person by 2030.
