Polymers are the finest matrices for pharmaceutical and biomedical applications owing to their adaptability and customizable properties. The aptness of polymers for different applications is mainly related to their features. Consequently, it is desirable to characterize them for various attributes, including molecular weight, rheology, thermal behavior, etc. Polymer characterization with a suitable technique not only offers information on their properties and functionality but also aids in understanding the polymer qualities and adjustments required to optimize their performance. This chapter discusses solid state, solution state, and biological characteristics of polymers and techniques used for the investigation of the same. Additionally, methods to assess biodegradability and biocompatibility are covered. Other recent polymer characterization techniques are also described. Conclusively, investigating polymer properties using a suitable approach can contribute to significant advancement in exploring the applicability of newly developed polymers in various sectors such as engineering, pharmaceuticals, and biomedicine.
