dc.description	Commissioner Fahim Hakim is a qualified social, development and human rights advocate. He has 20 years experience working as a grass-roots peace builder and advocate for community empowerment and human rights. Before joining the AIHRC in 2002, he was director and founding member of Co-operation for Peace and Unity (CPAU), working to initiate peace education for Afghan schools based in Peshawar, Pakistan. As HR Commissioner he worked closely with the Ministry of Education to incorporate human rights messages in the current teaching curricula from grades one to twelve. As an active member of Afghan civil society, he attended the Bonn Conference in 2001. He was a commissioner of the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) to deal with challenges and complaints related to presidential and provincial council elections in 2009.	en
dc.description.abstract	In the aftermath of 30 years of warfare and the indoctrination of the curriculum in Afghanistan with military content and propaganda, Commissioner Fahim Hakim will give a short presentation on the Commission’s efforts to turn the tide and incorporate Human Rights Education into schools. The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) sees education as a reliable tool for transformation and is seeking to enhance the capacity of school teachers to introduce new participatory and student centred teaching methodologies and to develop a strong political will within relevant government institutions towards human rights education.	en
