Complex problems require sophisticated problem solving approaches. A networked problem that involves many stakeholders requires a networked approach. The Designing Out Crime Research Centre at the University of Technology Sydney has developed a problem solving methodology based on the academic area of Design. This design-led approach has been developed in partnership with government and private sector organisations and is achieving significant impact. This presentation will outline the methodology, present a number of completed projects and give a case study of an emerging partnership project with NSW Police, NSW Justice, City of Sydney Council and Crime Stoppers. This group of collaborators have been using the Designing Out Crime methodology to develop a strategy to reduce mail theft.
