This chapter provides a concise summary, insights, and highlights of the last 50 years of advances in hyperspectral remote sensing science pertaining to agriculture and vegetation. Topics covered in each of the 22 chapters of this Volume (Volume I: Hyperspectral Processes, Sensors, and Data Analysis) are discussed considering the strengths and limitations pertaining to specific topics. In a nutshell, this chapter provided here is the editor's view and guidance to readers on the essence of the volume. Readers can approach the summary chapter in two ways—either read it at the very beginning to get an overview of what to expect in various chapters, or read it at the very end to recall the main essence of the individual chapters and get the editor's perspective.
