Given still scarce and contradictory scholarly research on this topic and a lack of empirical research in Saudi Arabia, the study's purpose was to explore the factors driving individuals’ behavioural intention to use cryptocurrency in Saudi Arabia using a unique research model based on TRA and extended with several external factors that proved relevant for this topic or have not yet been tested in this field. Data are obtained from September to November 2019 by a quantitative research methodology from 181 Saudi Arabia residents and analysed by EFA, CFA, and SEM. The study found attitude, subjective norm, perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment, personal innovativeness, privacy risk, and financial risk significant predictors of Saudis' intention to use cryptocurrencies. In contrast, security risk was not found to be significant for cryptocurrency use in Saudi Arabia. The study contributes to both theory and practices with the new research model for exploring this topic from human, financial and technology perspectives, additional empirical evidence on the factors included and the first empirical data for Saudi Arabia, enabling further research on this topic, comparisons of study results, enhancing the understanding of the phenomena and providing valuable information and recommendations for various stakeholders.
