Smart contracts, maintained on the blockchain, serve as self-executing protocols for monitoring and verifying contract terms. These contracts ensure trust and exclude intermediaries from transactions. Blockchain technology finds wide-ranging applications, including financial transactions, smart cities, and share trading. However, current identity management systems rely on centralized providers, raising concerns about privacy and trust. Blockchain technology offers a potential solution by eliminating the need for trusted intermediaries and providing users control over their information. This research addresses the challenge of managing user identity information reliably by combining identity management mechanisms, blockchain-based smart contracts, and artificial intelligence. Through a systematic literature review, existing methods in identity management were analyzed, revealing a lack of solutions that ensure data privacy and trust using blockchain-based smart contracts and artificial intelligence. The integration of blockchain-based smart contracts with identity management enables the detection of duplicate user identities while maintaining data privacy. Multiple machine learning approaches are used to achieve this. An early warning system is developed to alert users of nearing identity expiration. An algorithm is introduced to compute the trustworthiness score of user identities based on securely stored identity documents. A software prototype is employed to validate the proposed methods' performance. The findings demonstrate the potential of blockchain technology in enhancing transparency and privacy in identity management.
